Come on in!

The favoured entrance to the house is through the back porch into the kitchen – watch for the low oak beams, they’re quite ossified now! When originally built, the kitchen and adjacent dining area would have constituted the entire living quarters for a family. Wattle (woven alder) and daub (mud & straw) would have been used to fill the spaces between the beams. They’re now “exposed” so the combined living & dining area is large enough for people to gather while food is being prepared.

The kitchen flows in the dining room where a teak  dining table opens up to comfortably seat 8 and a dresser contains everything you need to set a fine table. There’s an excellent shop and a butchers in Pembridge and online grocery orders are delivered by a number of retailers. Breakfast is served here to those guests choosing the B& B option. Keep walking ahead through the house and you come to the door connecting you with a spacious lounge – that originally was a barn for livestock. Now our guests and their house-trained animals are welcome to use it. It’s fully equipped with an effective wood burning stove (best used in winter), a TV, DVD player, and free wireless broadband. In the summer you’ll enjoy being outside as long as the evening temperatures permit.

The staircase in the lounge leads up to the “West Wing” – it’s not necessarily Presidential but it does face west with a double bedroom whose views overlook gardens and fields and is right next to a spacious bathroom perfect for candle lit soaks.

The West Wing

  • quiet and private
  • faces west and north overlooking fields and garden
  • coffee & tea making facilities
  • Smart TV
  • ensuite bathroom, toiletries & towels provided
  • free wifi

The “Family Suite,” as mentioned,  is accessed from the dining area and occupies the south-east end of the house enjoying the rising and setting sun. As the double bedrooms share a common half bathroom, this accommodtion is attractive  for one couple, two adults or a small family.  The bedroom at the back of the house has views in two directions over the garden and adjacent fields, while the middle bedroom, although slightly smaller,  is flooded with light in the morning from the rising sun and if you’re lucky you’ll see our neighbours six, semi wild horses galloping around for the sheer enjoyment of it!

Family Suite

  • two double bedrooms, sleeps 4
  • faces south and west overlooking fields and garden
  • coffee & tea making facilities
  • Smart TV & free wifi
  • ensuite bathroom (sink & toilet), toiletries & towels provided
  • shared bathroom (shower) on main floor
